Statement from Speak Out Illinois LLC on the Reckless Passage of Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”

Washington, Illinois – June 29, 2025 

Speak Out Illinois LLC condemns the passage of President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which advances unfettered tax cuts, sharp social-spending reductions, and a $4 trillion increase in the debt ceiling—all passed without bipartisan support and against the public’s best interest.

Senate Republicans advanced this massive reconciliation bill by a razor-thin 51‑49 vote on June 28, following a narrow House approval in May—leapfrogging key parliamentary hurdles to force the bill forward.

What’s in the bill—and why it’s dangerous:

• Permanent Tax Cuts Favoring the Wealthy & Corporations
  Extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanently, raises the SALT deduction limit to $40,000—an advantage overwhelmingly skewed toward affluent households 

• Massive Deficit Spending Amid Fiscal Recklessness
  Projected to add $2.4–$2.8 trillion to the deficit by 2034, with updated Senate versions possibly pushing it past $5 trillion 

• Severe Cuts to Health and Nutrition Programs
  Includes toughened Medicaid and SNAP eligibility, threatening health coverage for millions of Americans 

• Rolled-Back Clean Energy & AI Regulations
  Undermines Inflation Reduction Act credits and bans state-level AI rules—sacrificing environmental and technological resilience 

• Heightened Defense and Border Spending
  Adds $150 billion in military funding and $70 billion for border enforcement, while deferring painful cuts to future administrations
